Stay in the Word - Week of October 18, 2009

Week of September 13, 2009

Monday - Numbers, Chapter 2
1. Genealogy is the study of family history, going back generations. Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, came to us as both God and Man. His human roots go back to the Tribe of Judah. (Vs. 3,4; Matt.1:2-3)
2. Details of historical accounts may seem unimportant when reading the Bible, but we can see lessons learned in them. Vs. 17 shows how God placed value in order.
3. By doing everything the Lord commanded, the Israelites received the discipline and character needed for the nation to be victorious in battle. (Vs. 34) Sometimes we can not understand why certain things have to be a certain way, but in the end we will see the reason if we follow through accordingly.

Tuesday - Numbers, Chapter 3
1. The firstborn had special recognition because they belonged to God in recognition of man's dependence on Him for life. Because they belonged to God they had to be bought by their father. The Levites are the substitute for the human firstborn. (Vs. 12,13)
2. Because mortality rate was very low, babies were not counted until they were at least a month old. (Vs. 40)

Wednesday - Numbers, Chapter 4
1. In this chapter we deal with the census of the Levites between the ages of 30 and 50, who will do the work of the tabernacle. (Vs. 1-49)
2. Only the High Priest could enter the Most Holy Place, and only once a year. An ordinary Israelite could probably only get to the front of the outer court. (Vs. 5)
3. The holy things symbolized the very presence of God. (Vs. 20) There was danger in being casual towards the items. Let us never, ever, take God lightly or be casual in regard to His Holiness.

Thursday - Numbers, Chapter 5
1. Quarantines were in effect until the uncleanness of the skin disease was removed. (Vs. 2)
2. When we sin, let us not only confess our sin, but make restitution too. Make things right again! (Vs. 5-8)
3. This ordeal provided a legal method for the guilt or innocence of the woman to be revealed. (Vs. 11-31) This was actually done as a protective measure for a woman falsely accused of having an affair. Without it, a furious husband might harm her. Men didn't need the same protection, but if adultery was discovered, the penalty was the same; death. (Lev. 20:10)

Friday - Numbers, Chapter 6
1. A Nazirite was a man or woman who made a vow to separate himself or herself to the Lord for a specific time. (Vs. 2) What did the vow entail? (Vs. 3-21)
2. Memorize the Priestly blessing and declare it over your loved ones, your church, your co-workers, Israel, your city, your nation, etc. To bless carries God's presence, activity and love into a person's life and environment.

Saturday - Numbers, Chapter 7
1. Reading the account of the list of offerings give us a sense of the magnificence of the ceremony that was taking place. (Vs. 12-83)  The Israelites were generous in their giving, giving freely and happily.
2. God spoke audibly to Moses and once He did, the Tabernacle was fully operational. (Vs. 89)
